Stop Using Internet Explorer (Updated)

In my various classes and interactions with people about technology one topic that I always try to mention is to stop using Microsoft Internet Explorer.

When Microsoft released Window 10 in 2015 they included a new browser called "Microsoft Edge." They created a new browser because the old one was too slow and insecure. But instead of calling it "Internet Explorer 2015" they gave it an entirely new name. That's because Internet Explorer had such a bad reputation from years of neglect and bad PR they had to move away from it.

Microsoft will continue to include Internet Explorer with Windows because they have to. Corporations have coded many legacy applications specifically to IE and it would cost too much to recode them.

But that doesn't mean that us users have to use it - and we shouldn't. Because there are too many great alternatives.

If you really like using Microsoft products make sure you are using Microsoft Edge. But these days, with everything moving to the cloud, which means you access everything through a browser, most people are migrating to Google Chrome.

Google Chrome is the most popular and widely used browser in the world. (gs.statcounter.com)

If you are in the Apple ecosystem you can use Safari. It is well-maintained, fast, and secure.

Just stop using Internet Explorer!
