Call Blocking Apps

This topic came up recently in one of my classes. I feel like there is more interest in this especially since I have read more about the topic lately (this year) and I seem to be getting more spammy calls on my cell phone personally.

Here is a recent article that says we should expect many more spam calls on our cells phone soon.

Spam robocalls will soon account for almost 50% of all calls

"According to new data from First Orion, a call protection company, the amount of junk calls will reach 46% by mid-year 2019. And by the end of that year, the amount is projected to finally cross the halfway point, meaning that half of all calls will be spam."

So I some quick Googling and found this article that rates several of the top call-identifying and blocking apps.

The 7 Best Call Blocker Apps For Smartphones

Here is an 'article' that really is just a long advertisement for their product (TrapCall). I include it here because I think it is structured and well-written. However, be aware that ultimately it is steering you to their product and at the bottom it is advertised at $4.95/month. I read elsewhere that there is a free version but I don't see a reference to that in this article. BUT, it is still informative about the subject.

Here is another top-10 list just to make you more informed of all the choices. Obviously, this is a problem because there are so many companies popping up to get into the market.

So, in the TrapCall article, I saw a recommendation I agree with. Pick a free one and use it for a while. Decide if you notice it working - or not so much. Try another one. Get a feel for them before you decide to pay money for one. Some are a fixed one-time purchase and others are a monthly subscription. I don't have a specific recommendation yet but I will be trying several over the coming months.
