Gmail has a lot of wonderful features and customizations but many of us have used Microsoft Outlook for many years (decades!) and for some people that it is difficult to change.
If you want to use Gmail for all its advantages but you miss the look and layout of Outlook there is a way for you to change Gmail to a split view.
In your Gmail open the settings by clicking on the little gear icon in the upper right corner. Then, in the little drop-down menu, select ‘settings.’
The view will change to the settings page with multiple tabs across the top.
Next, click on the “Labs” tab, then scroll down and find the “Preview Pane” and click on ‘enable.’
Ensure you scroll all the way to the bottom and click on ‘Save’.
Now, at the top right, you will see a new icon. If you hover your cursor over it you will see that it says, “Toggle Split Pane Mode.” Click on the little down arrow and select ‘vertical split.’ The screen will change to open a new pane on the right side. It will be blank at first until you click on a message on the left.
It’s not quite the same as Outlook but it is another way to configure Gmail that many will find more comfortable.
